Vision & Imagination
“Where there is no vision the people perish.“
Of Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, it’s the second habit, “Begin with the end in mind” that can really challenge a business owner, particularly, one who’s been in business for a decade or more. The constantly changing business climate is certain to take what may have been a successful vision ten years ago and make it useless or uncompetitive in today’s business environment. (In the March/April issue we reviewed the significance of adaptability).
This reinvention requirement is evident in every industry and within Information Technology it is very pronounced. Just consider for a moment Apple and their introduction of a new ipod every six months. Yes, the IT industry changes consistently every six months and rather dramatically every four years. Windows 7 anyone? (see below)

7 Helpful Tips for Upgrading

Know before you go
We mentioned it in the last newsletter and now it is here! Be prepared and understand some critical information before you attempt to upgrade to the latest Windows operating system.
1) Visit the compatibility center download the
Upgrade Advisor.
2) Back up your data!! Especially if are going from XP to Windows 7, a clean install is required and all applications will require reloading.
3) Pick the right flavor: There are 6 released editions in all be sure you don’t overspend. Like Vista there is a Home, Professional and Ultimate edition. The detail is in above linked page.
4) Security software. If
you’re running Windows XP you may have some security
software– antivirus, antispyware, personal firewall, etc. Since Microsoft has improved security within Windows 7 system kernel,
those Windows XP-era security programs will most likely not work in
Windows 7.
5) Know Minimum Hardware Requirements: 1Ghz, 1GB RAM, 16GB Hard Drive for 32 bit OS Windows 7 and 1Ghz, 2GB RAM, 20GB Hard Drive for the 64 bit OS version of Windows 7.
6) TIME!: If your upgrade isn’t from Vista and your hardware is a couple years old some actual upgrade times have logged upwards of 20 hours. So consider taking the weekend or talking with an engineer and we can help to assess and recommend the best course of action.
7) Windows 7 easy transfer
The file is migwiz.exe. You can find it on the Windows 7 DVD under
Support\Migwiz this is used to keep your personal preferences in tact.
